The Pickoff Throw Rule and the 2023 Season
In 2023, baseball implemented a new rule that limits a pitcher to only three pickoff attempts during a plate appearance. If on the third attempt the pitcher fails to make an out, a balk will be called.
With the version 12b patch installed, you can enable the new rule using the "Pickoff throw limit" option found on your League or Organization's Rules/Options page. This option will be enabled by default in the 2023 season database.
To play the 2023 season and utilize this new rule, it will be necessary to have the version 12b patch installed.
If you don't already own the Diamond Mind Baseball: Version 12 game you can buy the game together with the 2023 Annual Season Database and save $10 off the total price. Add both items to your cart and enter the shopping code NEW2023BUN on the checkout page to apply the discount.

A free update for DMB12 - The Version 12b Patch!
The Version 12b Patch
We're pleased to announce that we have released another free software update for the version 12 game. This update includes support for MLB's new Pickoff Throw rule as well as several important fixes.
We prioritized releasing this update before the 2023 season database becomes available. This is important because the new feature for limiting pickoff throws will be a necessary enhancement for anyone wishing to replay the 2023 season and for leagues using the 2023 database.
We have created a Version 12b Patch information page that includes all of the details about this update. This includes a list of fixes and step-by-step download and installation instructions.

The "Starting Pitcher as DH" rule
Beginning in 2022, MLB introduced a new Starting Pitcher as Designated Hitter rule -- commonly known as the "Ohtani rule". This rule allows a team to choose the same player as both the starting pitcher and designated hitter (DH) and then make in-game substitutions as if there are two different players in the lineup.
If you have the version 12a patch installed, this new rule can be set with the "Starting pitcher as DH" option in your League or Organization's Rules/options page and will be enabled by default for the 2022 season.
Therefore, it is necessary to have the version 12a patch installed to be able to play the 2022 season and take advantage of this new rule.

Version 12a Patch
The Version 12a Patch
On Friday, December 16th, we released a software patch for the version 12 game. This update includes support for MLB's new Starting Pitcher as Designated Hitter rule, otherwise known as the "Ohtani rule" as well a number of other enhancements and bug fixes.
We wanted to make sure that this update was ready before the 2022 season database because support for allowing a starting pitcher to also appear in the lineup as the Designated Hitter will be a necessary enhancement for anyone wishing to replay the 2022 season and for leagues that will be based on the 2022 database.
We have created a Version 12a Patch information page that includes all of the details about this update, including a list of the fixes along with download and installation instructions.
