How to Configure Your Router for Diamond Mind Baseball NetPlay
How to Configure Your Router for DMB NetPlay
Overview
To host NetPlay sessions in Diamond Mind Baseball, you may need to configure your router to forward port 32158 to your computer. This process is also known as "opening a port" or "port forwarding." This guide provides general steps that should work with most routers, though specific menu names and locations will vary by manufacturer and model.
Important: DMB uses port 32158 for NetPlay connections. This is the port number you'll need when configuring your router.
What You'll Do (3 Simple Steps)
- Find your computer's IP address
- Log into your router
- Add one forwarding rule for port 32158
The exact menu names in your router will vary by manufacturer and model, but the concept is the same on all routers.
Step 1: Find Your Computer's IP Address
Before configuring your router, you need to know your computer's local IP address. This is the address your router assigns to your computer (something like 192.168.1.100 or 10.0.0.100).
Windows Instructions
- Click the Windows Start menu
- Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog
- Type
cmdand press Enter - In the Command Prompt window, type:
ipconfig - Press Enter
- Look for the line that says IPv4 Address — this is your local IP address
Example: You might see IPv4 Address . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Write down this number. You'll need it in the next step.
Step 2: Log Into Your Router
Open Your Router's Settings
- Open your web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari)
-
Enter your router's IP address in the address bar. Common router addresses include:
192.168.1.1192.168.0.110.0.0.1
- Press Enter
- You should see a login screen
If none of these addresses work: The address might be printed on your router itself or in paperwork from your internet service provider.
- Enter your router's username (often
admin, administrator,or left blank) - Enter your router's password. Default passwords vary widely; check your router or ISP documentation
- Click Log In or Submit
If you don't know the password: Check the sticker on your router or documentation from your ISP. If you changed it before and don't remember it, you may need to reset your router to factory settings (consult your router's manual).
Step 3: Create the Port Forwarding Rule
Find the Port Forwarding Menu
Once logged in, look for a menu item with one of these names:
- Port Forwarding
- Virtual Servers
- Applications & Gaming
- Advanced → Port Forwarding
Note: The exact location varies by router brand. If you can't find it, check your router's manual or search online for "[your router model] port forwarding."
Enter These Settings
Once you find the port forwarding section, create a new rule with these settings:
| Setting Name | What to Enter |
|---|---|
| Service Name or Application Name | Diamond Mind Baseball |
| Port or External Port | 32158 |
| Internal Port | 32158 |
| Protocol | TCP (this is what Diamond Mind Baseball needs) |
| Internal IP Address or Server IP | The IP address you found in Step 1 (e.g., 192.168.1.100) |
| Enabled or Active | Yes, On, or checked (enable this rule) |
Field Name Variations: Different manufacturers may use different terminology for the same settings:
| Setting | Alternative Names |
|---|---|
| External Port | WAN Port, Public Port, Source Port, Incoming Port |
| Internal Port | LAN Port, Private Port, Destination Port |
| Internal IP | Server IP Address, Local IP, Device IP, Target IP |
| Protocol | Service Type, Port Type |
Common Configuration Examples:
Single Port Entry (Most Common):
- Service Name: Diamond Mind Baseball
- Port: 32158
- Protocol: TCP
- IP Address: 192.168.1.100 (your computer's IP)
Port Range Entry (Some Routers):
- Service Name: Diamond Mind Baseball
- Port Range Start: 32158
- Port Range End: 32158
- Protocol: TCP
- Forward to IP: 192.168.1.100
Important Note on Protocol: Your router might ask if you want TCP, UDP, or Both. Always choose TCP. (If "Both" is the only option, that's fine—just don't choose UDP alone.)
Save Your Settings
- Click Apply, Save, or Save Settings
- If your router prompts you to reboot, click Reboot or Restart Router and wait a few minutes
Step 4: Test Your Configuration
- Launch Diamond Mind Baseball
- Choose Game → Host NetPlay game(s)...
- Find your public IP address by visiting whatismyip.com in a browser
- Have a friend try to connect to you using that public IP address
If it works: You're done! Your port forwarding is configured correctly.
If it doesn't work: See the troubleshooting section below.
It's Not Working? Try This
Check #1: Did Your Computer's IP Address Change?
Your router assigns IP addresses automatically. Your computer's IP might have changed since you set up port forwarding.
- Run
ipconfigagain (see Step 1) - Check if your IPv4 Address is the same as before
- If it's different, log back into your router and update the port forwarding rule with the new IP address
Check #2: Is Windows Firewall Blocking the Connection?
Even if your router is set up correctly, Windows Firewall might be blocking the connection.
- On your computer, search for "Windows Defender Firewall"
- Click "Allow an app through firewall"
- Look for BASEBALL Application in the list
- Make sure there is a checkmark next to it
- If it's not in the list, click Allow another app and browse to find Diamond Mind Baseball
Security Reminder
Keep your router's password secure and update your router's software when prompted by the manufacturer—just like you'd update your computer.
Still Need Help?
If you're still having trouble:
- Consult your router's manual or manufacturer website
- Contact your internet service provider's technical support
- See the NetPlay section in Diamond Mind Baseball's Help Library (in the game: Help → Help Topics)
